- Abstract:
- sFunctional anatomy of the cricothyroid articulation was exymined expescially focusing on the movements that are possible. Cartilaginous surfaces of the cricothyroid joint were categorized into three different types and functional correlations were examined. I have included sidedifferent statements and interindividual differences, also between male and female specimen.
Measure of the Cricothyroid Space median and paramedian are given, also the distance between the Cricoid- and the Thyroid-plate.
In 50 cadaveric specimen the larynx was analysed to get significant results of this enormous variable ariculation, distances were measured by the use of a caliper.
The main point was to find out a possible gliding movement in horizontal direction caused by the oblique part of the cricothyroid muscle. The sometimes not very satisfying results of the phonosurgical technique of cricothyroid-approximation lead us to the assumption of great variability o f the Cricothyroid Joint and its movements.
The Cricothyroid Joint allows apart from rotation horizontal and vertical gliding movements depending on the different types of the cartilaginous surfaces (Type A, B, C).
