Abstract:: Aim: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a known perioperative complication. The scientific literature shows an association between the incidence of AKI and perioperative hypotension. It is unclear whether preoperative fluid administration can counteract a perioperative decrease in blood pressure and subsequently reduce the incidence of AKI. The aim of this study is to retrospectively analyse whether the intervention, i.e. the preoperative administration of a crystalloid fluid bolus, led to a reduced incidence of AKI in the previously conducted prospective main study. Due to different pathophysiological mechanisms in the development of AKI, this study refers only to non-cardiac surgery.
