Abstract:
As patient preparation and controllable influence factors such as dietary intake, alcohol and caffeine consumption, physical activity, smoking and the use of medication and dietary supplements have an impact on laboratory results, both phlebotomists and patients should follow guidelines and recommendations for venous blood sampling. Scientific literature indicates that adherence to dietary restrictions is often insufficient and compliance of phlebotomists with guidelines is low. Empirical data on the verification of other controllable influence factors is limited.
