- Abstract:
- Visualisations and heuristic methods can be helpful in medical-ethical discussions and contribute to the mathematical comprehensibility and quantification of decision-making processes. This article describes the development of a model for such a visualisation and describes its possible applications. Graphics and calculations are presented as examples. An "ethical field" is constructed in which conflicts can arise and decisions are made so that actions can be taken. Axes (mathematically vectors) are defined to calculate "conflict values" in order to graphically represent ethical principles, quantify them and make them mathematically tangible. This can subsequently be helpful for reflection, improving communication and resolving conflict situations. The "moral polygon" attempts to symbolise the moral concepts (and their limits) as a basis for decision-making and action by a person or a system in a field of ethical considerations and principles and - as far as it seems logically comprehensible - also to quantify them and make them calculable.
