Abstract:
The occlusal plane is closely associated with the development of malocclusion and serves as a key reference parameter in the formulation of orthodontic treatment plans. While a steep occlusal plane is typically observed in Class II-malocclusions, Class III-malocclusions are characterized by a flat occlusal plane. The therapeutic approach should therefore aim to facilitate the autorotation of the mandible and to guide mandibular growth in a favourable direction. In cases of severe skeletal dysgnathia, combined orthodontic-orthognathic treatment involving simultaneous rotation of the occlusal plane represents an effective method for achieving long-term treatment stability.
