- In Austria since 1976 avoidance of visual impairment in children is included in the screening programm of the "Mutter Kind Pass". In amblyopia the appropriatness, the clinical effectivness and the cost effectivness of screening programms, of test systems and of therapy is still or even more in discussion. Parameters such as quality of life or school performance were not investigated in the literature currently available and results of potentially harmful aspects of vision screening and therapy are inconsistent. The existing programm is planed to be improved by teaching those who are responsible for early of visual defects detection (Pediatricans and general doctors) to enable them to send children to their ophthalmologist in time. Many questions concerning the effectivness of treatment in amblyopia are still open for discussion - much effort has to be untaken to improve the compliance of these patients and their parents.
