Abstract:
BMI reference values are recommended to diagnose thinness, overweight, and obesity in children and adolescents, National reference values for Austria in acceptable cluality were not available so far, Therefore, a sample more than 15.000 children and adolescents tween 4 and 19 years of age was drawn in this ass-sectional study. Sex -specific BMI centiles matching BMI values at age 18 years, which are used for defining thinness, overweight, and oben adults, were calculated using the GAMLSS model. Overall, 18 % of boys and 12 % of girls were classified as overweight, further 5 % of boys and 3 % of girls were obese, Overweight and obesity is a big problem in Austrian children and adolescents.
