- Abstract:
- Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer related death worldwide. Despite substantial progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms and treatment of CRC in the last years, the overall survival rate of CRC patients has not improved significantly. Therefore, it is of great importance to find novel molecular factors that can predict the progression and prognosis in colorectal cancer patients as well as to discover new molecules that can act as therapeutic targets. In recent years long non coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have moved into the focus of research. They play a pivotal role in the regulation of various cell processes and have been associated with the development and progression of different cancer types. This knowledge makes them suitable as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. In this thesis we investigated the biological function of a novel lncRNA LINC1 in CRC cell lines in vitro and in vivo. For this purpose, we performed loss of function experiments in a panel of CRC cell lines to evaluate the impact of LINC1 on proliferation, migration, apoptosis, cell cycle, stemness in vitro and in vivo.
