ESF Exploratory Workshop: Links between visceral dysfunction and affective disorders
- Abstract
- Functional bowel disorders and mood disorders affect 10-20 % of the population. There is a considerable comorbidity between both disease entities, but the underlying links are not understood. This workshop addressses the need of a collaborative effort of gastroenterologists, neuroscientists and psychiatrists to explore the relationships between affective and functional bowel disorders. Thereby the workshop opens up a completely new direction of interdisciplinäry research into an important European health issue.
