Mission Statement

The alliance of patient care, education and research has a high priority for the Department of Urology.

Based on epidemiological changes, urology is inevitably a rapidly developing discipline. Numerous urological diseases became important only because of a steadily aging population. On the other hand, the sometimes high average age of our patients requires innovative and improvisatory approaches. Urology is highly diversified and comprises both histopathological changes as well as functional disorders. Amongst these are stone diseases, urinary tract infections, congenital abnormalities, various obstructive uropathies, male fertility disorders, neuro-urological disturbances, and a large number of oncological diseases affecting both the kidneys, the urinary tract, the prostate, the testes, and the penis. In addition, the Department of Urology has served as a well recognized centre for kidneyl transplant for many years.

The extraordinary amount of patient care not only demands every effort from our medical and nursing staff but also requires continuous adjustment to the current medical development. It is our goal to provide state-of-the-art patient care according to internationally accepted and widely agreed standards, however, such standards always must meet the personal requirements, expectations and anxieties of the individual patient.

Medical education and research are also our particular concern. The former is not only restricted to the mere transfer of currently available treatment plans, but also aims at the instruction of our students how to adequately deal with our patients in order to prepare them for their future professional life. Concurrently we focus on sparking interest in scientific work by inviting our students to participate in our research programs. These programs, ranging from clinical research to basic research, involve virtually all fields of modern urology.
